George Kobulia Introduced Annual Report at Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee Session

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, George Kobulia introduced the report at the session of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. The Minister talked about the current economic situation in the country, on-going processes, plans and visions.

In the presentation, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development reviewed the economic trends of Georgia as well as the ongoing and scheduled reforms as well as the entrepreneurship promotion programs. George Kobulia paid particular attention to the unemployment level and the decisions and future plans to create jobs as the priority direction.

The Minister highlighted that elimination of the poverty is one of the main priorities to the Government. “Of course, people are in a difficult situation and are in need. 20% is an enormous indicator and we should eagerly fight against the poverty” – the Minister of Economy stated.

George Kobulia stated that the workforce qualification and consequently, the basic professions are one of the main challenges for the economic development at this point. In addition, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development spoke about some other important challenges including the efficiency of transport and logistics, reduction of the share of the transportation in the value of goods; further improvement of the legislative basis; harmonization of the quality systems with the systems of the developed countries; access to the finances, especially for the medium and small businesses; attracting and facilitation of investors; involvement of the state property in the economic activities and increasing the effectiveness of the state companies.

Creation of jobs, inclusiveness and poverty reduction – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development named those to be the main objective of the economic growth strategy.
