26-12-2018

“The State made a decision to subsidize the price of the natural gas for the citizens – this decision allowed the GNERC to keep the consumer tariffs of the gas unchanged and even make a slight decrease in the price,” – Natia Turnava, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development commented following the meeting of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission.

According to the GNERC, the consumer tariff of the natural gas in Tbilisi and the regions will decrease – the price will decrease as follows: by 0.014 tetri in the Capital, by 0.011 tetri in the regions where the Socar Georgia Gas operates and by 0.012 tetri, where the Georgianorggaz operates. New tariffs determined by the GNERC will be effective from January 1 and until the end (December 31) of 2019.

According to Natia Turunava, the decision on subsidizing the gas prices has been adopted by the Government following the prolonged work. “Of course, there was some expectation that the gas consumer tariffs would be increased. That intensive investment program that is being implemented by the state and private companies in Georgia aiming at the full gasification of the country gave the ground for such expectations. However, the Government found the resources not to reflect those investments at the consumer tariff. We managed to implemented this trough subsidies” – the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.
