Genadi Arveladze at Economic Security Program Official Opening

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze and the US Agency for International Development Mission Director, Peter Wiebler officially launched the USAID Economic Security Program. A five-year program has a 17,8 million USD budget. The aim of the program is to improve the income of the population of Georgia by attracting investments, creating job opportunities and engaging the citizens in the chain of economic values.

In his welcoming speech, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze positively evaluated the contribution of the US government and the USAID to Georgia’s economic development and reform-implementation. Arveladze highlighted that the priorities of the new program are in fully compliance with the economic program of the Government of Georgia in terms of the inclusive economic growth. Deputy Minister noted that the program will contribute to the economic development of the country, development of the small and medium business, will promote innovations based entrepreneurship, etc. Arveladze stressed that the project envisages both, financial as well as technical assistance, which will help small and medium enterprises to develop and attract investments.

“We believe that this program will have a profound impact on the livelihoods of Georgia’s citizens and institutions by enhancing prosperity, creating jobs and promoting economic self-reliance,” – the USAID Mission Director, Peter Wiebler stated.

As it was noted at the presentation, the implementation of the new program implies various mechanisms that will facilitate to attract investments in selected economic sectors and create job opportunities. These tools include grants and the targeted partnership programs that will help to increase private sector engagement.

It is worth mentioning that during the 26 years of operation in the country, the US financial support for Georgia via the USAID programs amounts to over 1,5 billion USD.
