Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Ekaterine Mikabadze participated in a workshop discussing the models of economic integration into the markets of Europe and Asia. The meeting was organized by the TSU International School of Economics (ISET). The event was supported by the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), the Central Asian Institute for Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, in her speech, highlighted the prospects of Georgia’s economic integration and the ongoing reforms. According to the Deputy Minister, the economic policy of the Government of Georgia is aimed at integration of the country into the international economic processes. Ekaterine Mikabadze highlighted several advantages that the country can offer which includes Georgia’s transit potential, which has not been fully exploited, as well as the development of the trade ties, which are strongly supported by the Free Trade Agreements. The speech also covered the energy sector and Georgia’s potential leading role in the region’s energy sector. According to the Deputy Minister, this is the goal of the energy reform, which will increase the energy market and increase its competitiveness. The Deputy Minister emphasized the ongoing reforms of the capital and financial markets in Georgia, which will help Georgia to become a regional center that will serve not only the Georgian economy, but will transform the country into the financial intermediary of the region.

Representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and China also participated in the workshop.
