“Adherence to and development of the principles of free competition is one of the priority areas of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement. Today our legislation is fully harmonized with the European one, but there is still much to be done, including the need to provide the business sector with more information on competition policy and conduct more trainings and seminars for them. We are grateful to the EU for supporting this reform,” – the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze said at the closing ceremony of the EU-funded three-year project “Support to Georgian Competition Agency”.

“The Georgian Government’s task is to create an institutional and legal environment, which will contribute to the establishment of a free market economy and the introduction of free competition in line with the EU and international standards to Georgia,” – the Deputy Minister said.

The project was implemented in support of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement with the EU (DCFTA) with the aim of enhancing the culture of competition in Georgia and implementing the best European practice in Georgia. The project has supported more than 100 major initiatives to promote the institutional strengthening of the Competition Agency.

The Chairman of the Competition Agency of Georgia, Irakli Lekvinadze, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Khvtisiashvili and the Head of Cooperation at EU Delegation to Georgia, Vincent Rey, also delivered speeches at the event.
