Natia Turnava Had Online Meeting with Tourism Minister of Greece

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava held an online meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Greece.

Gennady Arveladze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Head of the National Tourism Administration, also participated in the online meeting.

Natia Turnava introduced the successful experience of the Georgian government in the fight against the new Corona virus to her Greek counterpart and noted that effective anti-crisis policy has enabled the country to gradually open itself to tourism.

At the same time, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development informed the Greek Minister of Tourism about the activities planned for activating the tourism in Georgia, including the establishment of the safe corridors with various countries.

Natia Turnava also noted that she has very intensive communication with her foreign colleagues from the countries, which the first flows of tourists are expected to arrive from in the nearest future. The Minister namely focused on the EU countries.

“Today we had an online meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Greece, Haris Theoharis, who is also the head of the working group set up within the World Tourism Organization. We exchanged preliminary visions on the obligatory requirements the countries should agree on to establish green, safe corridors to start the tourists flows between Greece and Georgia as soon as possible,” – Natia Turnava said.

According to the Minister Turnava, it is welcoming that the Greek company Aegean Airlines already confirmed their readiness to launch regular flights.

“Therefore, we will work with Greece and the relevant ministries, as well as with the representatives of this and other EU member states, to jointly accelerate the process of implementation of the common rules,” – Natia Turnava added.
