“Georgia and Latvia are ready to resume direct flights. The most important thing now is for our governments to exchange protocols very quickly, according to which security will be maintained when transporting people between the two countries. This is a quick and effective way for us to host tourists from Latvia as well as from all over the Baltic states during the summer season,” – Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated after the online meeting with Latvian Transport Minister, Tālis Linkaits.

Restoration of the direct air traffic between the countries was the main topic of the conversation. According to Natia Turnava, Latvian national carrier Air Baltic is ready to resume flights to Georgia from the first decade of July. The relevant application has already been submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Civil Aviation Agency. The Minister also noted that the Hungarian low-cost Wizz Air is also interested in the restoration of the regular flights from Latvia to Georgia, which has also applied for the launching of flights.

“We have already confirmed that we will allow the Air Baltic to operate the flights. As for Wizz Air, we are working on it and most likely we will give them the right to fly as well,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said.

Deputy Ministers Akaki Saghirashvili and Genadi Arveladze, as well as Georgian Ambassador to Latvia Thea Maisuradze also took part in the online meeting.
