Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, stated that the Wizz Air stays in Georgia, continues cooperation with the Georgian Government and remains loyal to its customers – the Georgia citizens.

As the Minister highlighted, the Hungarian airline has been operating in Georgia since 2012 and the Georgian Government has done everything possible to expand the Wizz Air activities. According to Natia Turnava, before the new coronavirus pandemic, the Wizz Air had flights from Georgia to almost 30 destinations and announced launching of another 10 new destinations.

“I have recently personally talked to the company’s management and the Wizz Air will confirm publicly that it is not going anywhere. It continues cooperation with the Georgian Government and Georgia and stays loyal to its customers, Georgian citizens who during all these years at affordable prices safely travelled from Georgia abroad and vice versa,” – Natia Turnava said.

According to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, today the global aviation industry is facing great difficulties and it is natural that any airline is trying to reduce costs, redesign aircrafts and implement other measure, which is a purely technical issue. Therefore, it does not matter if the Wizz Air plane will be based at the Kutaisi Airport or if will be transferred to one of its other bases.

“The most important part is that the Wizz Air is not leaving the country. The company has already officially applied to us with the request on restoration of the flights.

At the point we decide that certain directions should be activated in compliance with all the security measures, the Wizz Air will continue operation and the company itself will confirm this in the nearest future,” – Natia Turnava said.
