Natia Turnava Held Online Meeting with South Korean Minister of Environment, Cho Myung-Rae

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava held an online meeting with the Minister of environment of the Republic of Korea, Cho Myung-Rae.

The Ministers gave the positive evaluation of the economic cooperation between the two countries and underlined the increasing dynamics in terms of bilateral trade as well as tourism. It was noted that in 2019, the number of Korean visitors to Georgia was increased by 25%.

The Ministers also stressed the importance of cooperation in the energy sector.

“Georgia is becoming more and more attractive market among Korean investors. Today, there are about 80 companies operating in various fields in Georgia, which are established with the participation of Korean funds. However, one of the largest energy projects in Georgia is particularly significant – it is the Nenskra hydropower plant project, which is being implemented by the large Korean company K-Water,” – Natia Turnava said after the online meeting and added that the Nenskra HPP is the largest project in the foreign portfolio of the K-Water and at the same time, a strategic project for Georgia’s energy independence and energy security.

“The Minister of Environment of Korea expressed full support for this project on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Korea and confirmed the readiness for the timely implementation of the project,” – Natia Turnava said.

Davit Tvalabeishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Otar Berdzenishvili, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Korea and the representatives of the K-Water also participated in the meeting.
