Georgia is hosting the 112th meeting of the Executive Board session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which opened at the Biltmore Hotel Tbilisi.

Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, addressed the participants of the event.

“Tourism is at risk due to the World Pandemic, but today is a truly historic event, because for the first time since the pandemic, a meeting of the World Tourism Organization Council is being held. We are strong together, which gives us a unique potential for the restoration of tourism and the proper management of this process,” – Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, stated at the opening ceremony of the UNWTO Council at the Biltmore Hotel Tbilisi.

Pololikashvili said that the World Tourism Organization will do everything possible to mitigate the negative consequences caused by the pandemic.

“It is very difficult to see empty cities and closed museums. The only way to remedy this situation is our attitude and even that we have very strong support from the UN, thanks to them for their efforts. I would also like to thank the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Government of Georgia, the National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and everyone who provided us with this friendly atmosphere,” – Zurab Pololikashvili said.

The UNWTO Executive Board session is attended by up to 170 delegates from 24 countries, including high-ranking guests from Spain, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
