Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava, held an online meeting with the representatives of the leading Georgian banks.

The process of the preferential programs provided within the Government’s anti-crisis plan and the further restructuring of bank loans for small family hotels were discussed during the meeting.

Natia Turnava highlighted that despite the fact that the summer tourist season was held thanks to local tourism, due to the pandemic, the tourism industry in Georgia, as well as around the world, is still experiencing problems.

The Minister also noted that ever since the pandemic, the Government has been supporting this business within its anti-crisis plan and imposed many benefits.

“We understand very well that these businesses still need our support. For further support, we held these online meetings with the leading banks, their top management, and asked them to restructure the loans that small family hotels have accumulated due to pandemic and we all should stand by them. The bank representatives assured us that as soon as the owners of small family hotels apply with the request to restructure the loans, they are ready to consider each case taking into account each specific circumstance,” – Natia Turnava said.

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Ekaterine Mikabadze and Irakli Nadareishvili, Vice President of the National Bank Papuna Lezhava and President of the Association of Banks Alexander Dzneladze also attended the online meeting.
