Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnava and Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sardor Umurzakov discussed the issues of joint development of port, railway and logistics infrastructure during an online meeting. The conversation also covered the development of bilateral trade and cooperation in attracting investment.

Natia Turnava highlighted that Georgia and Uzbekistan are partner countries, friends and very fast developing countries in the region. As the Minister noted, Uzbekistan is studying the reforms implemented in Georgia in many directions and is taking some examples from here.

“The strengthened cooperation with Uzbekistan is very important for the development of the transport-logistics corridor. Ongoing and planned projects make it possible for the entire South Asian region to be connected to Europe via Uzbekistan and then through the multimodal transport corridor through Georgian ports. Very interesting, large-scale railway projects are being implemented in Georgia as well as in Uzbekistan, that connects it to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and to India” – Natia Turnava said after the meeting.

The meeting focused on deepening cooperation in the field of tourism as well.

It was decided at the ministerial meeting that Georgia will host a joint working group set up by the two countries to work on joint investments in transport and logistics infrastructure. In addition, the parties also decided on setting up another bilateral working group to identify potential export products and select important investment projects.
