Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava participated in the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Board Ministerial, which was held online this year. President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev opened the event.

Natia Turnava delivered the speech at the plenary session “Southern Gas Corridor: Achievements, Completion of the TAP Project and Launching of Gas Supply from Azerbaijan to Europe.” The Minister noted that this year’s Ministerial is one of the most successful, because the countries participating in this great initiative and regional project can confirm that all the planned measures have been implemented despite the harsh circumstances caused by the pandemic.

“We all participates in a truly historic process, when the old dream of ours and the countries of the region to supply Caspian gas to Europe via Georgia became a reality. Not only the South Caucasus part is already in operation, which brings its goodness to Georgia, but also after the second phase of the Shah Deniz, the TANAP project has been successfully launched, and now, finally, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline became operational as well,” – Natia Turnava said.

The Minister noted that the project is entering a new stage and Turkmenistan’s participation in it is one of the new features. Turnava also highlighted the new volumes and the new exploration works carried by the country strategic partner and friendly state Azerbaijan. It is notable that there are suggestions to further expand the Corridor and pipeline network to cover other European countries such as, for instance, the Balkan countries.

According to Natia Turnava, the main advantage that the project will bring to Georgia is increased volumes of the “free gas” from Shah Deniz, which is increasing gradually from year to year and strengthens Georgia’s energy independence, including in the field of gas supply.
