At the International Conference on Wine Tourism, which was held in Portugal under the auspices of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Georgian delegation introduced the participants to the culture of Georgian wine production and the potential of the wine tourism in the country.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili led the Georgian delegation.

Representatives of the Georgian delegation held meetings with the Ministers of Tourism of different countries within the framework of the conference.

Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, addressed the Ministerial and explained in detail about the stages of development of the wine tourism in Georgia and the support mechanisms that the Government uses to encourage the private sector.

“We attended the 5th International Wine Conference of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. It was quite an important, busy, exciting event for our country. Within the framework of the Ministerial, we had the opportunity to talk about the potential of Georgian wine tourism and that Georgia is the homeland of wine. We have, of course, used the opportunity to hold bilateral high-level meetings, to raise the awareness of our country, to negotiate direct flights. Georgia’s participation in such a high-level event contributes to the popularization and development of tourism in our country, but also has a positive impact on the development of the wine industry in the country and further possible exports to our strategic target countries, including the EU member states,” – Mariam Kvrivishvili commented.

The conference discussed the importance of wine tourism, the restoration of safe tourism under the Covid-19 pandemic and global challenges.
