Natia Turnava at Georgia-Austria Business Forum

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava participated in the Georgian-Austrian Business Forum – Economic Sustainability and Greenery: Georgia’s Strategies in the Context of Economic Recovery after Covid.

The Austrian Embassy in Georgia, the Austrian Foreign Trade Representation and the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the Forum. Speaking at the forum, Natia Turnava shared her experience of Georgia on the topic “Sustainability in practice” and spoke about the recovery trends in Georgia after the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the issues of sustainable and green economic development in the country.

Natia Turnava noted in her speech that several legislative acts have been adopted in recent years, whixh promote the principles of the green and sustainable development, including the Law on Energy Efficiency, the Law on Energy Efficiency of Buildings, the Law on Energy Labeling, the Law on Renewable Energy, the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan, etc.

“Today’s forum is one of the good examples when business and government are working on new projects that serve a more sustainable environment, the development of environmental principles, the introduction of more eco-friendly technologies in Georgia and at the same time, it is very attractive for business. We shared our experience with the forum participants, how many new legislative acts have been introduced in Georgia, despite Covid pandemic, which form the basic and legal basis for green economy of sustainable development, starting with the Law on Energy Efficiency and the Law on Renewable Energy,” – Natia Turnava noted.

The Minister also spoke about the steps that are being taken in terms of green energy development. Turnava highlighterd the green hydrogen projects since Georgia will be the first country in the region to introduce it.

“We are planning to introduce green technologies in the field of transport as well, as it is very important for the development of the tourism market  that is is better involved in eco-friendly transport,” –  Natia Turnava said.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili, Austrian Ambassador to Georgia Thomas Mulmann, Austrian Consul for Trade in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey, Georg Karabajek, Vice President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nino Suknidze and representatives of the Georgian business sector also attended the Forum.
