Natia Turnava at Event Dedicated to Celebration of World Olive Day

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development participated in the event dedicated to the celebration of the World Olive Day.
Minister highlighted that the development of the olive sector in the country would have been impossible without strong support by the International Olive Council, Georgian investors and activities of the Olive Association. Turnava also noted how exited it is that the at this moment, President of the International Olive Council is a Georgian investor.

In her speech, Natia Turnava also underlined the Government’s contribution to the development of the olive culture, as well as to the active policy of diversification of agricultural products during the recent years.

“This policy is primarily aimed at diversification of local agricultural products, revival and development of Georgian production in general. Our main priority in this direction is to strengthen local production to replace as much imports as possible and develop exports. We have provided unprecedented support to agriculture and, in parallel with co-financing, we have also offered a loan program within the Produce in Georgia Agency’s programs, which made planting of perennial crops more accessible and financially profitable in the country today,” – Natia Turnava said.

Georgia joined the International Olive Council in 2019, and in 2020 became the chair-country of the Council. The aim of the International Olive Council is to contribute to the development of the olive culture via organizing forums for international discussion to resolve any issues related to the olive sector.
