“As part of Expo 2020 Dubai, we signed an important agreement today on launching negotiations on Free Trade with the United Arab Emirates,” – Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, told the media after the official opening ceremony of Georgia’s National Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Natia Turnava highlighted that the negotiations will continue next year and there is an expectations that they will be very successful.

“We paid an official visit to Dubai three months ago and then an agreement was reached to start free trade negotiations very quickly. In just three months, we managed to sign an agreement to start negotiations,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.

According to the Minister, despite the pandemic, the trade turnover between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates is growing, but the interest is much greater and the agreement on free trade will help increase Georgian exports to this country and this region.

“This will cover agricultural products, fruits, vegetables, meat products, mineral waters and many other products that we can supply to the market and there is great interest as well. It is also important that the United Arab Emirates is the first country in the region to join the 46 countries with which Georgia already has a free trade agreement, and that will benefit both countries,” – Natia Turnava commented.
