“I am glad that today Georgia officially joined the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank as a donor state on behalf of the country and we have the opportunity to share our success examples and experience with other countries,” – Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili said at the event celebrating 30 years of partnership between Georgia and the World Bank.

According to the Minister, during the period of partnership between the World Bank and Georgia, there were of course challenges and many setbacks, although this period was successful in terms of economic progress.

“The World Bank representatives also pointed out that Georgia is one of the examples in the world and emphasized how the country was able to transform from the poorest country to a country with a higher than average income and a country that has the ambition of getting the status of a country with a high income,” – Levan Davitashvili noted.

Davitashvili highlighted that the cooperation with the World Bank during the past three decades significantly contributed to the development of Georgia. With such strong and sustained support, the Government of Georgia has been able to implement reforms in key areas such as private sector competitiveness, infrastructure development, financing of small and medium enterprises and energy security.
