Air Traffic Agreement Signed between Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Government of Georgia

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Aviation, Maritime and Security of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Baroness Vere of Norbiton, signed the Air Traffic Agreement between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Georgia in London. The document was signed within the eighth round of the Wardrop Strategic Dialogue.

According to Agreement, airlines are allowed to independently determine the rates, capacity and frequency, air traffic will be possible between any points on the territory of the countries from which international air traffic will be carried out. Also, the Agreement will regulate such important issues as flight safety and aviation security, assignment of rights, designation of air carriers, use of the Chicago Convention, use of joint codes by airlines, etc.

“Signing of the above-mentioned agreement will contribute to the implementation of regular air transportation between Georgia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, increase of free competition, deepening of trade and economic relations and development of tourism between the countries,” – Genadi Arveladze stated.

Arveladze noted that Georgia has signed similar agreements with many partner countries, including Israel, China, Republic of Korea, India, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, etc.
The need for a bilateral air traffic agreement between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Georgia arose after the brexit of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union.
