First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, met with the newly appointed British Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward.
The meeting was cordial and was also attended by Givi Zedelashvili, the Head of the Department of Trade Development and International Economic Relations of the Ministry.
The First Vice Prime Minister extended his congratulations to the British Ambassador on commencing his diplomatic mission in Georgia and wished him every success in his future endeavours.
The discussion covered bilateral cooperation under the framework of the "Wardrop Strategic Dialogue," with a focus on trade and economic matters. Particular emphasis was placed on investment opportunities, bilateral trade, and the tourism sector.
The significance of strengthening cooperation under the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and the United Kingdom was highlighted. It was also noted that the UK is one of Georgia’s largest international investors, with involvement in several key sectors of the Georgian economy. To foster closer ties between the business communities of both nations, trade missions and business forums will be organised, providing Georgian and British entrepreneurs the chance to explore potential future collaborations.
The First Vice Prime Minister elaborated on major infrastructure projects, such as the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the Black Sea Submarine Cable, and the new international airport in Tbilisi, among others. The crucial role of these projects in advancing the country's economic development and integrating into regional transport, logistics, and energy networks was underscored.
The meeting also underscored the significance of commencing direct air services as a means of enhancing collaboration in the tourism and civil aviation sectors. It was observed that negotiations with leading British airlines are nearing completion, after which these carriers will be poised to commence regular flights to Georgia.
Additionally, the discussion touched upon the advancement of cooperation in the fields of innovation and technology.
