Dimitry Kumsishvili Discussed Development of Energy Projects in Georgia with Turkish Company Çalık Enerji

First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili discussed the energy projects in Georgia, including those of usage of the renewable energy resources with Ahmet Çalik, the Chair of the Board of the Çalık Enerji – the largest energy holding in Turkey. The meeting was held in Ankara, Turkey. 

Wind power plants projects, which Çalık Enerji is developing in cooperation with the Energy Development Fund of Georgia, was also covered during the conversation. 

As it was decided at the meeting, the Çalık Enerji will build a wind power plant of 50MW capacity in Georgia and namely, in the Shida Kartli region and the construction will require the investment of 75 million USD. 

“We completed negotiations with Ahmet Çalik, the Founder and the Head of the Çalık Enerji, and we agreed that the wind power plant with a capacity of 50 MW and the investment of 75 million USD will be built in Shida Kartli. This is, of course, a very important investment, and at the same time, this will result into another new source of renewable energy in the electric power system of our country,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili stated.

In turn, Ahmet Çalik said that he believes in Georgia and it future. According to him, another investment implemented by Çalık Enerji will contribute to the deepening of the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy and economics.

“It was a very productive meeting and the most important is that we agreed that the Çalık Enerji will invest in Georgia’s wind and solar energy sectors. At this stage, the first investment will be implemented in the wind energy and a 50 MW wind power plant will be built. We believe in Georgia and its future. We have already invested in Georgia and we have very good relations with Georgia. I believe that the visit of the Vice Prime Minister to Turkey will be successful. And I hope that another investment will contribute to the cooperation of the two countries in the fields of energy and economics,” - Ahmet Çalik stated.

Prospects of cooperation in solar energy sector in Georgia was also covered during the conversation.

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Chikovani and Romeo Mikautadze, and the Director of the Energy Development Fund of Georgian, Tornike Rizhvadze also attended the meeting.
Çalık Enerji is implementing the wind power plant project in cooperation with Energy Development Fund of Georgia.
