Giorgi Cherkezishvili Met Minister of Environment and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Cherkezishvili held a meeting with the Minister of Environment and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, Kaspar Gehard.

The Deputy Secretaries of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development, Alda Ozola and Edmunds Belskis, as well as the Acting Charge of Affaires of Latvian Embassy in Georgia, Madara Silina and other high-profile authorities of the Latvian Government also attended the meeting. From the Georgian side, the Head of the Information and Communications Technologies Department, Eka Kubisadze as well as other representatives of the Ministry of Economy participated in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by representatives of ICT Association.

The meeting focused on the ongoing cooperation between the parties in the field of communications, information technology and innovations and the importance of further enhancement, which will have a positive impact on the further development of the digital economy of both countries. Giorgi Cherkezishvili briefly reviewed the ongoing and implemented projects in the field of telecommunications, stressing the importance of bilateral cooperation with the Latvian side in the fields of communications amd information technology and innovations.

Giorgi Cherkezishvili expressed his gratitude towards the Latvian guests for their support to Georgia in various directions at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and invited the Latvian side to the European Dialogue in Tbilisi on June 5-6 of 2018, which will be dedicated to the issues of e-Governance. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development emphasized the unprecedented instance of holding the European Dialogue in a non-EU country and noted that it is a great honor to host such a large-scale event in Georgia.

During the meeting with the delegation of Latvia, the issues related to the development of cooperation between the countries in the direction of e-Governance, as well as the coordination of radio frequency spectrum and innovative ecosystem enhancement were mainly highlighted. The sides expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation in the fields of international broadband networks, e-governance development strategies, e-services and software, as well as innovative ecosystem and other directions.
