“Following the negotiation with my colleague, Georgian business will be able to expand its export to the Republic of Turkey by 20%. It covers such products as live cattle, including sheep and goats. We also talked about Georgian honey, as well as other products of animal origin, which will have the opportunity to enter Turkish market for the first time,” – the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili stated following the completion of the final stage of the negotiations on expansion of the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and Turkey with the Turkish Economy Minister, Nihat Zeybekçi.

Negotiations were held in Ankara, within the official visit of the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia to the Republic of Turkey.

As a result of negotiations, the Turkish side agreed to cancel tariff barriers and limitations as well as to increase the volume of the existing quota on certain Georgian export products.

“Turkey is number one trade partner for Georgia. Trade turnover exceeds 1.5 billion USD, and our exports volume equals to over 200 million USD. Therefore, the results of the negotiations on expansion of the Free Trade Agreement are very important for the Georgian exporters,” – First Vice Prime Minister noted.

It should be noted that the expansion of the Free Trade Agreement also covers the trade of services, which has not been taken into account by the existing agreement. Negotiations on trade with the Turkish side will continue in the future as well.
