Memorandum on Air Traffic Agreement between Georgia and Saudi Arabia
23-02-2018

Negotiations on the terms of the Air Traffic Agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were held in the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia on February 22-23 of this year. As a result of the negotiations, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the parties, which will enable airlines of both countries to perform direct regular flights and sign commercial agreements before signing the intergovernmental agreement.

Within the framework of the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement based on the internationally recognized liberal principles established in the aviation sector. According to the draft Agreement, the quantity, capacity and frequency of designated airlines will not be limited. At the same time, since the air traffic will be available between any points in the territory of the countries, from which international air traffic is or will be carried out, the airlines will be able to determine the tariffs themselves.

The bilateral Intergovernmental Agreement between Georgia and Saudi Arabia will set legal basis between the two countries to perform direct flights, which in turn will promote tourism development and trade-economic cooperation.

Taking into consideration the recent increasing tempo of the number of visitors from Saudi Arabia to Georgia, in order to consider future cooperation possibilities, representatives of the Saudi Arabian Airlines visited Georgia within the frames of current negotiations between the countries.
