Genadi Arveladze Discussed Prospects of Bilateral Economic Relations with the Uzbek Delegation

On February 22, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia held an Inter-Agency Meeting with the Government Delegation of Uzbekistan. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Sahib Saipnazarov, headed the delegation of Uzbekistan. From the Georgian side, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the LEPL National Tourism Administration, the JSC Georgian Railway and the CCP Trade and Industrial Chamber attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the dynamics of bilateral relations in the recent period between the two countries was positively assessed. The trade-economic situation between the two countries alongside with the export opportunities and the further development and enhancement strategies, as well as the current situation in the industrial direction were main subjects to discussion at the meeting. The parties also discussed the expediency and possibilities of opening joint ventures in different sectors, and other specific issues that will further promote trade-economic ties between Georgia and Uzbekistan.

In the course of the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze informed the Uzbek side about the attractive business and investment climate in Georgia, as well as current and planned reforms.

One of the important directions of cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan is transit of goods, and accordingly, the meeting focused on increasing the volume of transit through Georgia and initiating joint projects. Uzbekistan is interested in Georgia's transport-logistic capabilities; the cooperation is not only in bilateral but regional and multilateral format. The sides also discussed the issue of restoration of direct flights between Georgia and Uzbekistan.

Prospects of future cooperation in tourism sector were another important issue of the meeting. Uzbekistan is particularly interested in studying and sharing Georgian experience in tourism, including wine tourism development.

The sides also discussed the possibility of holding a regular session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan in the first half of 2018, which will be headed by Vice Prime Ministers of Georgia and Uzbekistan.

The parties agreed to enhance existing trade-economic relations between the two countries, and expressed the readiness to also increase the export capacity, facilitate the movement of free trade regime and improve bilateral legal base, as well as prospects for opening joint ventures in the future.
