Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Cherkezishvili opened the first session of the regional working group of Eastern Partnership countries where road safety issues were discussed.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Tbilisi City Hall representatives, the European Union Delegation to Georgia, delegations of Eastern Partnership member countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova), the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will attend the Regional Working Group sessions, which will last until March 7, in Georgia.

According to Giorgi Cherkezishvili, the goal of meetings between the working groups is to share the international and regional practices between countries, discuss the main challenges of the Eastern Partnership in Road Safety, maintain pre-development recommendations and analysis of launching the complete, international standards compliant database for road accidents, as well as to obtain a specific activity program for each working group and identify the financial instruments to improve the road safety.

As it was said at the meeting, this event will deepen international cooperation in the direction of road safety and provide a positive impact on the country's prestige in general.

Within frameworks of the cooperation with the European Commission, the Road Safety Regional Working Groups, formed within the Eastern Partnership Transport Panel Secretariat, are coordinated by the World Bank. The event is hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
