Giorgi Kobulia Held Meeting with World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Mercy Tembon

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Giorgi Kobulia held a meeting with the World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Mercy Tembon and other representatives of the regional office of the organization. Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava and Giorgi Cherkezishvili participated in the meeting as well. Ongoing and scheduled reforms in Georgia supported by the World Bank as well as Action Plan were the main topics of the conversation.

“We talked about the assistance provided by the World Bank in the infrastructure projects as well as the education and the introduction of new technologies. This is a very valuable partnership for us and we will continue this cooperation in the future”- Giorgi Kobulia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.

Improving the qualification of the public servants was one of the main topics of the conversation. The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted that in order to more efficiently use the assistance provided by the World Bank and other donor organizations, it is necessary to perfect the qualification of the people employed in the public sector.

“It is necessary to create conditions for attracting better skilled and qualified people into the public services. We should provide trainings, relevant education and preparation courses, which will allow those people to make better and more qualified decisions. In this case, I think, we will benefit more from the aid provided by the World Bank and other organizations. The World Bank offered us consultations on the ways of increasing the level of qualification of our public servants” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development commented.
