Giorgi Kobulia Participated in First Informal DCFTA Ministerial

Giorgi Kobulia, accompanied by the delegation, visited Brussels to participate in the First Informal DCFTA Ministerial. The event was initiated by the EU Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström. Implementation of the Action Plan under the DCFTA and further development of bilateral trade and economic ties were discussed during the session. It was highlighted at the meeting that the effective implementation of the Association Agreement, including the DCFTA, is the priority of the Government of Georgia – the DCFTA is of outmost importance for Georgia, since it provides grounds for gradual integration into the EU internal market, providing access to one of the largest consumers markets without any tariffs and quotas.

Within the frames of the event, the Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development held meetings with the EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn and the EU Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc.

“Support and promotion of the SMEs and establishment of the credit-guarantee fund in this regard were the main topics of the discussion with the Commissioner Hahn. The EU and the European Investment Bank is supporting and will continue this support in this direction,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated following the meeting with the EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.

“We talked about the mechanisms that insure the outcomes we expect from establishing the credit-guarantee fund.  The fund shall allocate money to those companies that will contribute to the country’s economic growth and further integration to the European markets,” – the Minister noted.

Important issues related to the transport including Road Safety and railway modernization were discussed during the meeting of Giorgi Kobuli and the EU Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc.

“The European Commissioner is ready to help us to increase the level of road safety. As you know, the European Commission has great experience in this direction, they have gone through a long way and we are pleased to have the opportunity to get the "ready product" to achieve fast results in this field,’ – Giorgi Kobulia stated following the meeting.

According to the Minister, modernization of the Georgian Railway was also a topic of a conversation at the meeting with European Commissioner. “European Union has chosen the railway as a strategic means of transportation, it is very important for us to increase the efficiency of the Georgian Railways and to further expand this sector in our country,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.
