Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kobulia held a meeting with the USA Ambassador Ross Wilson, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., where the priorities of the future cooperation were discussed.

Participants of the meeting put special emphasis to the free trade agreement between the countries.

“Our plans are very optimistic regarding this issue. We have already started the work in this direction. The most important thing is that launching the work on the Agreement will itself assist us in attracting additional investments from the US and this is of paramount importance for us” – Giorgi Kobulia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia stated after the meeting.

At the meeting, the sides also focused on cooperation in such directions as transportation and logistics development and the implementation of large-scale education programs. The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze paid a visit to the United States on November 28-30. One of the main issues discussed at the meeting held within the frames of the visit was the necessity of expanding the trade between the US and Georgia and launching of the Free Trade Agreement between the countries. Genadi Arveladze met advisorს of various committees of the US House of Representatives and Senate on international trade as well as with the USAID Assistant Administrator for European and Eurasian Affairs and the USTR Assistants on economic policy, Europe and the Middle East and the labor issues.

“I had a very good initial meeting with the Minister Kobulia. We talked about Georgia’s economic development priorities and what he sees some of the most important and urgent areas are to work. We talked about the things that the united states have been doing here over the past years to support economic growth and development. We also talked about the ways of improvement of the coordination between the authorities. We also talked about how to improve the trade in the foreseeable future” – the US Ambassador Ross Wilson, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., stated after the meeting.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze also attended the meeting.
