Natia Turnava Met with Representatives of Nonfood Stores and Retail Chains

In order to prevent possible spread of a new COVID-19 in Georgia, a meeting with the representatives of nonfood stores and retail chains was held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development within the framework of the Interagency Coordination Council headed by the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Tbilisi Mayor, Kakhi Kaladze also attended the meeting.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Tbilisi Mayor briefed the participants on the decisions and new regulations made at the Security Council meeting under the Prime Minister’s leadership.

According to the regulation, all merchants across the country, except those of strategic importance, such as grocery stores, pharmacy stores, gas stations, mailing networks and banking services should be closed.

“In particular, we are talking about a change in the form of trade in retail units, which involves working remotely online for non-food stores. We explained to the participants the soundness of the decision and the factors that led to the decision. Of course, first of all, it is about taking care of our citizens and preventing further spread of the virus. We discussed various technical issues related to the implementation of this decision, got informed about the challenges they face and confirmed that we are ready to support them in any possible ways we can,” – Natia Turnava said.

The Minister also noted that the participants of the meeting understand the reasons for such decision clearly and fully share the responsibility in avoiding the spread of the coronavirus.

As the Tbilisi Mayor noted after the meeting, representatives of the different business sectors were briefed on the current situation in the light of the current situation. According to Kaladze, the Government is taking various actions to ensure the safety of citizens and their health for the most possible extend.

“Once again, I would like to thank the business sector for their support during this difficult time, and I confirm that the State will support them in any possible way. The first and most important thing to all of us today is to overcome with dignity the hardship that the whole world is struggling with,” – Kakhi Kaladze added.
