Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, is participating in the discussion of Georgia’s trade policy reports for 2015-2020, which is being held at the World Trade Organization headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Two reports have been submitted for consideration – the first is by the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization, and the second – by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze, presented an overview of the Georgian Government report at the meeting. He briefed the member states on the country’s trade policy. He also spoke about the reforms in the field of trade during the reporting period and their implementation.

Georgia’s Trade Policy Review 2015-2020 aroused great interest among the members of the World Trade Organization. Representatives of the organization’s 14 member states asked more than 230 questions about the current trade policies, free trade agreements and other topical issues in the country.

Representatives of the member states of the Organization, including strategic countries, gave very positive evaluation of Georgia’s trade policy.

Participating in such an event is a commitment made by Georgia to the World Trade Organization. According to the rules of the Organization, all its members are obliged to periodically submit information on the trade policy in the country, which aims at transparency among the members of the organization and promoting of the effective functioning of the multilateral international trade system. Georgia has been a member of the World Trade Organization since 2000. So far, Georgia’s trade policy has been discussed twice by the organization – in 2009 and 2016.
