Guram Guramishvili Introduced Sector Development Strategy to Transport and Logistics Sector Representatives

Transport and Logistics Development Strategy in Georgia and its main indicators were discussed at the meeting organized by the Investors Council. Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Guram Guramishvili participated in it.

The meeting was held at the office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the EBRD Regional Head for the Caucasus Alkis Vryenios Drakinos, the Head of Investors Council Secretariat Giorgi Cherkezishvili, the Railway Transport Agency Director Erekle Kezherashvili, Deputy Head of Transport and Logistics Development Policy Department of the Ministry Aleksandra Suladze as well as the representatives of large transport and logistics companies, profile business associations and public sector participated in it.

Deputy Minister highlighted that the Government of Georgia developed the 2023-2030 Transport and Logistics Strategy and Action Plan based on the results of the public discussions and consultations with profile businesses. According to Guramishvili, the development vectors of this most important direction in the country were clearly reflected in the Strategy. He also noted that the Government considers Georgia as a regional transit and logistics hub in the future, however, in order to achieve this, it is necessary to significantly improve the quality of services in the field, update the logistics infrastructure and equipment, increase the efficiency of supply chain management, as well as raise the qualifications of the workforce, etc.

Guram Guramishvili paid particular attention to the importance of increasing awareness of Georgia, such as the transit corridor, on international markets. According to him, the Government is actively cooperating with the European Union and the countries of the region in order to attract more cargo flows to the Middle Corridor passing through Georgia, which is the shortest land route between China and Europe. Deputy Minister also spoke about the improvement of transport links via the Black Sea, the digitization of port services and the implementation of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project.

After discussion, the representatives of the field expressed their opinion regarding the development of the field.

Investors Council is an independent platform of public-private dialogue chaired by the Prime Minister of Georgia, with the objective of promoting dialogue between the business community, international financial institutions, donors and the Government of Georgia with the objective of promoting business and investment climate in Georgia.
