Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili met with the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, Mikayil Jabbarov.
First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Romeo Mikautadze, Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze, General Director of Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation Giorgi Chikovani and Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze also took part in the meeting.
Parties discussed bilateral trade and economic relations and noted that the strengthening of economic ties is an important aspect of deepening cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that both countries are successfully implementing global and regional economic, energy and transport projects.
Special attention was paid to the development of bilateral trade. It was noted that Azerbaijan is in the top five trade partners of Georgia in recent years, and in 2022, it was at the second position among the main exporting countries. In addition, it was emphasized that the export potential is great and Georgia is interested in increasing the export of such products to Azerbaijan as agricultural products, food, nitrogen fertilizers, cement, etc. Georgian side also provided information about the platform - www.Tradewithgeorgia.com and expressed the hope that Azerbaijan’s business circles will be able to further strengthen bilateral trade ties through it.
Cooperation between the countries in the field of investment was also the part of the conversation. It was noted that Georgia is interested in offering Azerbaijani investors projects in such sectors as tourism, energy, agro-industry, logistics, information technology, industry, etc.
Special attention was paid to the development of bilateral and regional projects in the transport and energy sectors. It was noted that both countries are interested in the development of the middle corridor passing through Georgia and Azerbaijan and attracting new transit cargoes. The conversation touched on the progress of the construction of the deep-sea port of Anaklia. The parties also discussed the current situation on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as the possibility of scheduling additional flights between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Development of such a large-scale project as the Black Sea Submarine Power Cable project and its special importance in terms of supplying green energy resources of the South Caucasus to the EU market was given a especial emphasis.
Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili drew attention to the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum as an important regional platform and expressed hope that the delegation of Azerbaijan will be represented at a high level and will be headed by Prime Minister, Ali Asadov.
