Third Session of Interagency Commission on Road Safety Held

Organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the third session of the Interagency Commission on Road Safety was held, which was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Guram Guramishvili.

The Chairman of the commission introduced the current state of road safety to the interdepartmental commission based on the statistical data of 9 months of this year. Positive dynamics was highlighted and, in particular, in the mentioned period, the number of people injured in traffic accidents decreased by 6,0%, and the number of deaths decreased by 7,7%. Attention was also focused on the challenges and recommendations mentioned in the report on Georgia published by the European Commission on November 8, 2023.

The report of the first half of 2023 of the National Road Safety Strategy of Georgia for 2022-2025, the action plan for 2022-23, and the draft action plan for 2024-2025 were introduced at the session. The presentations included detailed information on the progress of implementation of the tasks and measures envisaged by the 2022-2023 action plan of the 2022-2025 National Road Safety Strategy, as well as the activities envisaged by the draft 2024-25 action plan.

Problematic issues and possible additional measures, according to the state agencies responsible for road safety were discussed and a consensus was reached.

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Minister of Education Gela Geladze, the Chairman of the Department of Highways Giorgi Tsereteli and representatives of other state agencies responsible for road safety (Ministry of IDPs from the occupied territories of Georgia, Labor, Health and Social Protection, LEPL Land Transport Agency, LEPL Tbilisi City Municipality Transport and Urban Development Agency) also attended the meeting.
