25-04-2025

First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, met with Silvia Savich, Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Russia and Eurasia.

The meeting took place within the framework of the First Vice Prime Minister’s visit to the United States, and the Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze also participated in it.

The meeting discussed priority areas of trade relations between Georgia and the United States. Among other things, the Georgian side raised the issue of holding a “High-Level Dialogue on Investment and Trade” meeting to discuss bilateral trade and investment issues within this format.

The First Vice Prime Minister stated that the US-Georgia trade turnover is characterized by a growing dynamic every year. In 2024, the US was Georgia’s third-largest trading partner, with approximately a 9%-share. However, as Levan Davitashvili noted, Georgia is not only an important trading partner for the US but also serves as a hub for the distribution of US-exported products to other countries in the region. He said this particularly applies to light vehicles and certain types of agricultural products, which are re-exported through Georgia to Central Asia and other countries in the region. It is noteworthy that in 2024, $940 million worth of cars were re-exported.

The discussion also touched on the US’s new administration’s tariff policy. The parties agreed to continue exchanging information in this regard. As Levan Davitashvili noted, the tariff-related changes will have a negligible impact on exports to the US.

In conclusion, it was noted that both the United States and Georgia are ready to actively develop mutually beneficial trade relations.
