Lasha Abashidze will head Georgian Railway – the new Director General was introduced to the company’s staff today by the First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, and the Deputy Minister, Guram Guramishvili.
As stated by the First Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili, Lasha Abashidze has experience working in managerial positions in the railway sector and public service, which means that the adaptation period will be short and effective. He wished Lasha Abashidze success in his new role as the head of Georgian Railway and thanked the company’s former Director General, Davit Peradze, for his work.
“The smooth functioning of the railway is crucial for the country’s economy, especially in the context of the Middle Corridor’s development. Our interest lies in increasing both the volume of cargo transportation and revenues,” – the First Vice Prime Minister noted.
Lasha Abashidze has prior experience working at Georgian Railway. From 2006 to 2009, he held various positions within the company, including Head of the Procurement Agency, Deputy Director of Freight Transportation, and Head of Operations Management. Lasha Abashidze is a lawyer by profession and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration.
From 2015 to 2017, Lasha Abashidze served as the Vice Mayor of Tbilisi, from 2014 to 2015 he was the Governor of Vake district, and from 2013 to 2014 he was the Head of the Presidential Administration.
Lasha Abashidze replaced Davit Peradze as the Director General of Georgian Railway, who had held this position since 2017.
