Giorgi Kobulia At Multimodal Terminal Opening Ceremony in Batumi

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development George Kobulia attended the opening of the multimodal reset terminal at the Batumi International Container Terminal LLC. The Batumi International Container Terminal LLC together with the Medlog Georgia LLC provided the storage infrastructure over 2 ha plot of land and 3000m2 modern indoor customs warehouse.

The honorable guests, including the Head of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze and the Director of the LEPL Maritime Transport Agency the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Tamar Ioseliani, examined the new terminal, where the dragging works in the equatorial and channel waters have been successfully accomplished. Consequently, the Batumi International Container Terminal LLC is now capable of receiving FEEDERMAX type container vessels with 11m drawing capacity. This fact greatly increases the operational capabilities and provides the competitiveness of the service that has positive impact not only on the container terminal but the Port significance. 

George Kobulia highlighted the importance of the project that will definitely contribute to the increase of Georgia’s transit potential. According to the Minister, this is a project, which will help our exporting companies to have better access to the international markets.

“The terminal project is implemented in compliance with the highest standards by the international company ICTSI and its subsidiary company. We believe that this will be the leading projects in their portfolio – the project covers not only the warehousing, but also provision of the communications, railway and road access to the port as well as the expanding of the port. All this will enable us to increase the terminal capacity by 100% - increasing it from 100,000 to 200,000 tones. Of course, this is a very important project that will to further develop not only Adjara but Georgia’s economy in a whole,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia commented.

As it was noted at the official opening ceremony, the implementation of infrastructure projects will increase the capacity of the container terminal by 100% (from 100,000TEU to 200,000TEU) and significantly improve not only the capacity of the container terminal but also the port’s performance and the quality of the services which will result in further strengthening of the region’s economy.

The MSC Georgia Managing Director Alkan Alicik , the Commercial Director of MEDLOG Turkey Volkan Tek, partner of the MSC Georgia and MEDLOG Georgia Jemal Inaishvili, the MEDLOG (Geneva) Executive Director Salvatore Prudente, the Vice President of the ICTSI (Europe, Middle East and Africa) Hans Ole Madsen and the Batumi International Container Terminal LLC Acting Director Nikoloz Gogoli, together with the representatives of the Government of Georgia, also participated in the event.
