“Manufacturing, tourism, business services, so called outsourcing and food industry – these are the sectors that we consider as a priority directions for the development of the Imereti Region,” – the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development George Kobulia stated at the meeting with the residents of the Tskaltubo Municipality village of Mukhiani. The meeting was held within the Rural Development Program framework.

“I would like to identify some economic directions for the Imereti Region - first of all, it is manufacturing and the MGM TEX, a textile factory, can be named as a perfect example. Such types of manufactures are planned to be opened since there are interested investors and this really is a very promising direction. Such kind of production helps us to increase our export and attract more foreign currency to the country,” – George Kobulia noted.

The second direction on which the Minister emphasized was the so-called outsourcing. “For example, these include call centers, which are established by the foreign companies in Georgia. This direction is especially developed in Kutaisi - some German companies have opened such call centers where our citizens serve different companies outside Georgia. There is a demand for such call centers, there are already some investors interested in this business and it will be one of the most promising directions,” – the Minister of Economy stated and noted that the Kutaisi Free Economic Zone is designed for such activities and some investors have already expressed their interest in developing of export services (e.g., the export legal services where foreign companies will benefit from the services that Georgian Free Economic Zones offer.

“One of the main directions for the Imereti Region, including Tskaltubo, is tourism, where we plan to actively attract additional investors. A very important direction is agriculture. For example, I have learned about the production process of organic herbs, which is exported to the European countries. Greens export is a high-end business, with high income and this direction can become a big business for the Imereti Region. This will help us in a new terminal at the Kutaisi Airport, where we hope to have air-freight transportation,” – George Kobulia said.
