21-03-2019

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia attended the symbolic foundation laying ceremony of the Aptos Thread Production Complex which was funded within the frames of the State Program Enterprise Georgia.

“This project is particularly welcomed because it is one of the projects aimed at producing innovative, high-tech products, and, which is most important, these products are elaborated by Georgians” –  George Kobulia stated and thanked the project authors, the Sulamanidze family, for the work done.

Aptos is Georgian company, the inventor and producer of the world famous Aptos threads. The company has a 23-year experience. This is the first Georgian company that has CE (Conformité Européene) sign on medical products, which allows their export to any European market. At this point, Aptos threads are sold in over 50 countries through a large-scale distribution network.

“The most important aspect is that these high-tech, innovative products will be manufactured in Georgia. At the same time, it produces export products, which even doubles the importance of this project,” – the Minister noted.

Aptos threads are currently manufactured in Russia (for the Russian and Chinese market) and in Germany (for the global market). This entirely Georgian invention is spread under the “Made in Germany” label within the plastic surgery and the aesthetic medicine specialists of several dozen countries of the world.

Within the frames of the Enterprise Georgia Project, the company contributed form the infrastructure support component of the project and with the support of the LEPL National Agency of State Property, a plot of land of 10000 m2 was transferred to the company while in March 2019, via the accessibility to the finance component of the program, it received the financial support, which means that the Enterprise Georgia Agency will co-finance the interest rate of the loan during the next two years.

George Kobulia highlighted that the government will support such projects in the best possible way. “Such projects can become the driving force of the Georgian economy, these are the projects that will defeat poverty. The initiation of such a project is another justification that Georgia has a favorable business environment and is ready to accept and develop such projects,” – George Kobulia noted.

The Complex will start operating in December 2020, and it will be able to produce 300,000 units annually. At the first stage the company will provide jobs for 100 people, while the amount of project investment will total to 15 million GEL.

It is important to note that the project has its strategic advantage as well, which means that the label “Made in Germany” on the Aptos production will be changed and the products will reach different markets with the “Made in Georgia” label on it. During the following two years the company plans to enter such important markets as of Brazil, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Thailand and Singapore.
