Results of the research on establishing the apparel and furniture manufacturers’ clusters in Georgia were discussed today at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The EU and the GIZ representatives introduced the results of the research to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development George Kobulia and other senior representatives of the Ministry. The EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell and the President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nino Chikovani also attended the meeting.

Summarizing the meeting, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated that according to the results of the survey, Georgia has a great potential for the development of both sectors. As George Kobulia noted, the discussion revealed that the apparel  industry was the establishment of the higher value-added enterprises, and in the case of furniture - specializing in massive wood furniture.

“We agreed on future steps and the EU will help us to create clusters in both directions. For this purpose, the EU will send international level experts to the country who will connect Georgian producers with each sector, help them increase their efficiency, introduce new technologies and most importantly, find buyers and acquire the EU market. I hope that this initiative will produce tangible results in the nearest future,” – George Kobulia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
