Akaki Saghirashvili Opened CGLI Conference

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Akaki Saghirashvili participated in the opening ceremony of the 7th World CGLI Conference, which was co-organized by the CGLI and the Georgian Logistic Group (GLG). Over 150 delegated representing shipping and logistic sectors of 100 countries attended the event. 

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Akaki Saghirashvili informed the conference participants about the Government’s vision regarding the development of the transport and logistics sectors develop and highlighted the favorable location of the country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, which gives the shipping and logistics businesses vast opportunities for development. Deputy Minister also talked about the large infrastructure projects (Anaklia Deep Sea Port, Railway Modernization Project, East-West Highway, etc.), which will significantly facilitate the entry of international carriers in the Georgian market and attract additional capital in logistic infrastructure. Akaki Saghirashvili emphasized the role of the middle corridor passing through Georgia and the decisions made for its development.

“We actively work on the promotion of the middle corridor and the implementation of the ongoing as well as the scheduled infrastructural projects. Our goal is to transform Georgia into the regional hub. Such high-level conferences will increase recognition of our country and region as well as the middle corridor among the international carriers and logistics companies,” – the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said.

“It is very interesting for us to study the situation in the Caucasus region and the whole Black Sea countries. I represent the CGLI Network, which has representation in over 100 countries. I am sure, than even more our members will visit Georgia after this conference. Ongoing infrastructural projects in the country will double the existing capabilities and as a shipping company representative, I can tell you that our interest in this country is huge. We see the opportunities the country now develops and we clearly see the progress that can be achieved through these increased capabilities,” – Raymond Van Akhternen, the managing director of the GCLI network commented.

The Conference will last until the end of the week. Its participants will be able to better get acquainted with the logistic infrastructure of Georgia. The B2B meetings are also scheduled within the Conference.
