David Tvalabeishvili at Aragvi HPP

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, David Tvalabeishvili visited the Aragvi HPP whose one of the stations became operational this year and got familiar with the working process.  The installed capacity of the new station with an investment of GEL 8,8 million is about 2 MW. The Aragvi HPP-2 is one of the 11 hydropower plants that have been added to the country’s power system over the past two years. Their total installed capacity is 100 MW. 

Both Aragvi HPPs employ 10 people, the vast majority of whom are locals.

Aragvi HPP and its reservoir, in addition to its energy purpose, contribute to the development of other sectors of the local economy. The construction of the HPP led to construction of a new road, which, togerhter with the artificial lake, attract more tourists. The valley, which was previously impassable, has become favorable for livestock development, with local farmers relocating their livestock.

The construction of the station and its infrastructure contributed to the tourism business. Specifically, the valley has companies that offer extreme tourism lovers to enjoys quad bike rides and paraglider flights.

“It is important to meet the increased demand for electricity in Georgia through local resources. We have signed the relevant Memorandums on investing into the Georgian Energy Sector 1 billion USD. We believe that in the next 3 years, our system will have up to 500 MW additional capacity and will build about 40 HPPs and other energy facilities, ” – Davit Tvalabeishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.
