Significance of cooperation within the frames of the International Transport Forum as well as the ITF Quality Charter were paid particular attention during the meeting. It was highlighted that Georgia has succeeded in terms of implementation of the Charter requirements.

Increased number of quotas for multilateral freight traffic permits in the future was also coverred during the conversation. It is noteworthy that Georgian carriers are actively applying for freight transport permits within the above-mentioned quotas, which has provided our carriers with the opportunity to fully integrate into the European transport network. The Georgian side also stressed on the road safety issues and the need of strengthening the cooperation with the ITF in this regard.

International Transport Forum - ITF (2006 European Conference of European Transport Ministers ECMT) is an intergovernmental organization with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), established in 1953 and brings together 60 countries.

Georgia joined the European Transport Ministers’ Conference in 1997 and became involved in the ECMT multilateral freight transport permit system. Membership of this organization obliges Georgia to harmonize the legislation in the field of transport with the common European legislation in order to maximize the unification of the standards set for the transport process and the formation of a unified safe road space, which has been successfully implemented in recent years.
