Natia Turnava at Uk-Georgia Business Forum

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava, participated in the official opening of the UK-Georgia business forum. In addition to the representatives of business circles of the two countries, Judith Slate, a member of the British Government’s Trade Commission for Eastern Europe and Central Asia attended the forum. 

In her welcome speech, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Natia Turnava, highlighted Georgia's macroeconomic trends, high international ratings, ongoing and planned reforms and investment attractiveness of the country. 

According to the Minister, strengthening the international cooperation and economic integration is a priority of Georgia's economic policy. 

“We are actively working to deepen economic cooperation and accelerate economic growth through such means as trade facilitation, development of transport infrastructure and investment incentives. We support Georgia's cooperation and integration process with the economies of European countries. Economic integration policies will facilitate trade and investment flows to our country, knowledge and information sharing, policy coordination and effective decision making process,” - Natia Turnava said.  

As the Minister stated, the government of Georgia aims to further increase the flows of foreign direct investment into the Georgian economy, since FDI is the source of economic growth and support transferring knowledge and technologies. At the same time, special attention is paid to the qualitative improvement and diversification of FDI flows, making it more profitable in terms of productivity and export promotion. 

Natia Turnava stated that Georgia has a firm starting point to become a regional hub. She added that the utilization of transit potential and development of logistics centers, an intermediate link for processing and producing the goods imported to Europe and Asia, developed tourism infrastructure and open energy market are included in a brief list of the opportunities that Georgia offers to its potential investors.

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, Justin McKenzie Smith, also delivered a speech at the forum.
