Sixth meeting of EU-Georgia Association Committee on Trade

The sixth meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Committee on Trade was held in Tbilisi on December 5-6. It was attended by the representatives of the state agencies and the relevant Directorates of the European Commission involved in the implementation of DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement).  

The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze, and the Head of the European Commission’s Directorate-General co-chaired the committee meeting for Trade in Russia, CIS, Ukraine, Western Balkan, European Free Trade Association, European Economic Area, Turkey and Central Asia, Petro Sourmelis.

The meeting focused on the issues related to the DCFTA implementation, in particular, promotion of trade in goods, customs and trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, protection of intellectual property rights, public procurement, telecommunications, mail and courier services, competition, trade and sustainable development.

Special emphasis was put on Georgia's reforms carried out in the fields of food safety, veterinary and plant protection, customs, public procurement, labor security and market surveillance. The European Commission will appreciate Georgia's reforms and other measures taken to meet the DCFTA commitments. 

The EU-Georgia Association Committee in Trade Configuration is a governing body for the implementation of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) of the Association Agreement and, in accordance with the agreement, the Committee gathers annually for meetings. The meeting locations are rotated between Tbilisi and Brussels consecutively.
