“I congratulate Georgia, the Imereti Region on the completion of this project and the re-opening of the renovated Kutaisi International Airport, which complies with the international standards. This one of the most outstanding projects in the whole region,” – Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia stated when addressing the audience at the official opening ceremony of the renewed Kutaisi International Airport.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava and the representatives of the Georgian Government, local authorities, diplomatic corps and other invited guests, attended the official opening ceremony of the renovated Kutaisi International Airport.

The interior design of Kutaisi International Airport has been completed and the old and new terminals have been merged which allowed the Kutaisi Airport to have a single terminal with arrival and departure lounges and all the equipment needed for its smooth operation.

In the renovated terminal, the so-called “green roof” and a green terrace were arranged. The Airport has seven exits and can serve over 1200 passengers an hour, which is four times higher figure than the capacity of the airport before the renovation. The implemented works increased the capacity of the Airport allowing it to receive over two and a half million passengers a year.

“Today we can see a completely renewed space here. The total area of the terminal has been increased 6 times reaching 30 000m2 of total space and making it truly one of the largest airport facilities possible. It has also practically quadrupled passenger capacity and the renovated airport will serve over 2,5 million passengers a year. Passengers arriving at the Kutaisi Airport will find up to 2 000m2 of commercial space, which is a very good opportunity for Georgian business as a whole, including regional, small businesses; here is increased registration counters, exits, luggage dispensing tape, etc. In all parameters, it is already a large airport of international standards,“ – Natia Turnava stated.

Large-scale project to expand Kutaisi International Airport was launched in 2017. The state has invested 110 million GEL. Over 500 people were employed in the implementation of the project at different times and over 100 leading Georgian and foreign companies were involved in the project.
