Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava participated in a conference on Gender Equality in Georgia organized by the International School of Economics Research Institute (ISET Policy Institute), the Eastern European and Emerging Economics Research Forum (Free Network) and the Government of Sweden.

The Minister, in her welcoming speech, introduced in detail the decisions taken by the Georgian Government in the field of gender equality in recent years. According to Natia Turnava, encouraging women’s participation in entrepreneurial and economic activities is important for achieving inclusive growth, which is an significant aspect of the government’s economic policy. According to her, the government’s economic policy is aimed at creating new opportunities in the labour market, promoting a flexible and sustainable system of education and vocational training, and stimulating greater involvement of women in entrepreneurial activities.

Natia Turnava noted that the representation of women in Georgian politics, education and other fields is quite high, but the situation is not the same in business. In Georgia, the economic activity of women aged 15 to 64 is 40,4%, while the same indicator for men equals to 62%. “This statistic clearly indicates that Georgia has great potential to increase the use of human capital, including in terms of increasing the rate of women’s economic activity and labour force participation,” – Natia Turnava commented.
