Levan Davitashvili at Meeting Dedicated to Trans Caspian Corridor Development

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, along with the Georgian Government delegation, participated in a four-party meeting related to the development of the Trans Caspian Transport Corridor. The meeting of the delegations of Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey was held in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Guram Guramishvili, as a member of the Georgian delegation, also attended the meeting in Aktau.

Details related to development of the infrastructural components and operational directions of the Middle Corridor were agreed by the parties.

In his speech, the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia focused on the important steps taken in recent years to improve the effectiveness of the Middle Corridor. According to Davitashvili, compared to 2014, when the movement of container trains through the Middle Corridor was launched for the first time, in 2021 a significant increase was observed and China-Europe container shipments through Georgia exceeded 10 thousand TEU. Levan Davitashvili also noted that the development of infrastructure and other directions related to the corridor is very significant. He focused on the necessity of digitalization of transport routes and corridors on the Black Sea.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey, in turn, expressed their readiness to jointly take measures to increase the efficiency and attractiveness of the Middle Corridor.

Different documents were also signed within the framework of the ministerial meeting, which concern specific activities determined to improve the capacity of the middle corridor, in particular, it is about the action plan for the elimination of the bottleneck and congestion effect of the corridor for the years 2022-2027.
