Negotiations on Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement between Georgia and United Arab Emirates Accomplished

“This is a very important day in terms of economic cooperation between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates - we have concluded negotiations on comprehensive economic cooperation, which will be a start of free trade relations between the two countries,” – Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili stated.

Levan Davitashvili and Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, signed a joint statement on the completion of negotiations between the two countries. The signed document determines an estimated date of completion of domestic procedures for preparing the text of the agreement for official signature.

“Of course, this will be a new stage in the development of economic relations between the two countries. This very complex document covers not only the tariff-free trade issues. Along with the investment protection document, it will be an important foundation and prerequisite for the further development of the economic relations between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates,” – Levan Davitashvili highlighted.

The third and final round of negotiations between Georgia and the Emirates was held in Tbilisi on March 15-17. From the Georgian side, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze led the negotiations.

Based on the agreement on comprehensive economic cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, Georgia will benefit from the free trade regime with the Emirates, which will additionally open opportunities for Georgia regarding the 10-million market with high purchasing power. The Agreement will cover numerous areas and issues of trade and economic relations between the two countries including trade of goods, rules of origin and procedures of origin, customs administration and trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade protection measures, investment, trade of services, digital commerce, etc.
