Coordinating Meeting on Development of Abastumani Resort
05-06-2023

Issues related to the development of Abastumni were discussed at the coordinating meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, where the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, also heard information from representatives of the private sector about the ongoing and planned hotel constructions at the resort. Almost all investors who are developing projects of hotels, restaurants and event spaces in Abastumani participated in the meeting held at the Ministry.

As it was said at the meeting, by the summer of 2025, most of the main hotels in Abastuman will be ready to receive guests. The representatives of the private sector presented the ministers with detailed information about their projects and discussed various directions, which are implemented with the support of the state, within the framework of the Abastumni project, for the promotion of the private sector.

Along with the projects carried out by the private sector within the framework of the Abastumni development plan, the important works carried out by the state were also highlighted at the meeting, including such projects as the completion of restoration of up to 20 historical houses of the 19th and 20th centuries on the central street of Abastumni, rehabilitation of the National Astrophysical Observatory built in 1932 and the cableway built in 1982, a general plan for the development of the resort, etc. The construction and rehabilitation of the resort’s water supply and sewage systems and sewage treatment plant was completed in 2020-2022 for continuous, standard-compliant water supply and proper drainage of Abastumni. At this stage, the complete rehabilitation of the Baghdati-Abastumni road, the construction of the Abastumni bypass road, the bus station and the open parking lot are in progress.

One of the important issues that the participants of the meeting focused on was the diversification of hotel development in Abastumani, which implies the development of both five-star, international brand hotels and local, low-budget accommodation facilities.

The parties agreed that similar working meetings will continue in a more intensive mode.

Together with Levan Davitashvili and Irakli Karseladze, State Representative in the Samtskhe-Javakheti Region Besik Amiranashvili, Mayor of the Adigeni Municipality Gocha Kimadze, Deputy Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Koba Gabunia and Head of the National Tourism Administration Maya Omiadze aslo participated in the coordination meeting.
